Engineering graduates and post graduates are necessary for holding key posts like designers and executives but to carry out execution, maintenance and supervision of work technicians are required Therefore polytelincs conducting diploma courses of three year duration have been established from the time immemorial. As mentioned earlier like degree colleges, polytechnics were running by Government and on grant in aid bases. No self financial technical institutions were existed. Considering the demand of technical education and Governments inability to provide technical education to the large persons the Gujarat Government has permitted to start technical institutions on self financial basis from the year 1995. There are about 24 polytechnics are offering diploma courses in the state through self financial basis.
